QUAL - Tecksick

QUAL is the solo project of William Maybelline of Lebanon Hanover. Qual has been described by Post-Punk.com as William’s “meaner, darker, and nastier persona”. The word qual means pain in German. Since Qual’s 2015 debut release Sable, the project has been exploring dark and gloomy soundscapes of minimal synth, old school EBM, industrial electronics recorded on analog equipment.

After the successful release of the 2021 LP Tenebris in Lux and the 2022 remix album Re-Animate, Qual is back with Techsick, 3 new tracks and a remix by Sarin released by Fabrika Records.

The opening track Dancing in Hell is a jarring, but pleasurable departure from previous Qual releases: a lush wall of guitar bordering on metal with William’s familiar vocals expressing survival through any means, a literal dance through hell .

The minimalist pulse of the title track Techsick will sound more familiar to fans. It explores a fraught relationship with technology ranging from sensuality to violence.

Funeral Fashion an ode to the death aesthetic, is presented as a classic EBM track on the A side and as a techno remix by Sarin on the B side. Qual and Sarin are the power behind the joint project General Dynamics, best described as industrialized techno and electronic body horror.

The first vinyl edition of Techsick is limited to a print of 500 copies. The 12” vinyl comes inside a heavy deluxe cover, pressed on black and bloody red vinyl. Digital versions will be released through Bandcamp and iTunes.
